This home was built in one of the most prominent areas of Toronto, for a longstanding client. He wanted a home that blended into the historic neighbourhood, but would appeal to the modern lifestyle of his family.
The result is a stately home that has a richness enhanced by using bay windows, interesting brick detailing, and good proportion to achieve curb appeal.
Inside is a spectacular three storey hall, off which all rooms are organized. An enormous glass suspended ceiling, with design commissioned from an O.I.S.E. student, filters light from large skylights higher up. The kitchen is bright, modern, and has a greenhouse section leading to the rear deck. It is separated from the adjacent den by an “in the wall aquarium”, visible from both sides.
Careful design and detailing all through the house ensured that the house worked perfectly to protect the private family spaces from the more public areas, which the parents were often using for business or private entertaining.
